Villers Abbey Belgium 8" x 10" Photograph

Villers Abbey in Villers-la-Ville, Belgium was founded in 1146 AD by monks from the abbey in Clairvaux, France at the invitation of the knight Gauthier de Marbais and his mother Judith.  Over its long history, the abbey went through many phases of construction.  The abbey fell into ruins in 1796 during the French Revolution.
